For the most part, my photos are generally landscapes. I usually take pictures of buildings and nature and I avoid people unless it is in a journalism format. And I enjoy taking pictures of events like the parades. But I consider myself an amateur photographer and I do want to grow, so when my friend and work colleague, Kevin told me about the Met Gala and encouraged me to attend, I took him up on the offer
The Met Gala happens once a year in New York City, near the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and from what I understand of it (and that is not much), it features a few notables like Sean Combs, Rhianna and others from today's pop culture. Generally, I do not follow popular culture. The music I am interested in was popular during the '70s and '80s and maybe early to mid-1990s. As for celebrities, I have never been star-struck. Essentially, I don't care about it. I will take a quick shot of someone famous if I catch them in some news event, but I never really cared about social gatherings. I decided to give this a try though to increase my knowledge of pop culture and to sharpen my skills as an amateur photographer. I was told that I needed to get there early-like 1:00 for an event that started after 4 PM, but I had no idea that time was late and that I would be around a lot of people. After two hours of standing in a sea of people, I grew tired and more irritable and opted to leave. I did manage to get a few pictures. but nothing spectacular. Nothing except the lesson of being patient. So I post the shots I took as inspiration to do MUCH better next year.
